Our Australia and Asia itinerary in 2017 has gone through many iterations (see our original planned itinerary here). We always like to set up a fairly roughed-out itinerary before any big trip. Yeah, yeah, we know this goes against the “fly by the seat of our pants” backpacking ethos.
For us, having a good idea of where we want to go and how we’re going to do it reduces the inherent stress of traveling so we can focus on enjoying the experience. It also means we know we’ll never arrive in a destination with no place to stay. Besides, changing plans later on is so easy that we have never (or at least rarely) regretted having made our original plans.
We will leave Canada on December 28th, flying via Vancouver to Brisbane and onto Cairns. We will finish in Tokyo on June 1. After that, we have no idea. Maybe we’ll return to Canada. Maybe we won’t. By that point we’ll have spent almost a year on the road, but there will still be so much of the world yet to see.
If anyone has any suggestions, please let us know. And as always, if anyone, whether friends, family or other travelers, want to meet up on the road, we’re all for it!
